"Mess, no mess. P1_4_R3=C1_P3,"
includes an interactive sculpture with an interior that reflects on childhood memories and
comes to a new understanding of old ideas. External
problems, such as the political mess of confetti [a reference to the 2000 presidential
election], are left outside of the sculpture.
Through projected images and confetti, the organic sculpture interacts with nearby
people and the surrounding space. The
installation is operated by a system of sensors and a human inside an Oz-like machine. The interior of the sculpture, like a loving
embrace, depicts a place where troubles and political concerns are irrelevant.
When I was forced to face illness and death in my family, I created a place where I
could hide from my fears, reflect on memories from my childhood, and come to grips with my
own mortality. The formulaic make-up of the installation produces the balanced
safety that I was longing for.
Definition of Formula Components:
P1 = Pristine
R3 = Reception
C1 = Circle
P3 = Destruction of Pristine |
